Removing Students from a Class
Learn how to remove a student from a class and what happens to their access and progress
How removing a student works
When you remove a student from a class, they are fully removed from that class.
There is no hidden or temporary state. Once removed:
- The student no longer appears in your class roster
- The student loses access to all course content in that class
- The student cannot rejoin the class on their own using the class code
If a student needs access again, you can restore them at any time.
To restore access for a student you removed, see: Restoring a Removed Student
When to remove a student
You may want to remove a student when:
- A student is no longer in your class
- A student joined the wrong class
- You need to correct class enrollment
Remove a student from a class
You can remove a student at any time from within the class.
To remove a student:
- Go to My Classes

- Locate the class and select View Class
- Open the Student List tab
- Find the student you want to remove
- Open the Actions menu next to their name
- Select Remove Student
The student is removed immediately.
What happens to student access and progress
When a student is removed:
-
They lose access to the class and its assigned courses
- Their progress and scores are no longer visible in that class
The student’s data is not deleted. If you restore the student later, their previous progress and scores will return.
Important note for SSO teachers
If your school uses Clever or ClassLink, student enrollment may be managed by your district’s rostering system.
In these cases:
- You may not be able to manually remove students
- Class membership may update based on roster sync
If a student appears incorrectly in your class, contact your school or district administrator to update the roster.
