Resetting a Student’s Password (New Teacher Experience)

Learn how to set a temporary password so a student can sign in and create a new password

When to use this

If a student is unable to log in because they forgot their password, you can set a temporary password from your teacher account. The student will use this temporary password to sign in and then create a new password of their choosing.




How to set a temporary password

You can set a temporary password from My Students or My Classes. All options take you to the same Set Temporary Password window.

  1. Log in to your teacher account.
  2. Choose one of the following ways to access the student:
    • From My Students
      Click My Students in the left navigation, locate the student, and click the key icon in the Actions column.

    • From the student detail's page

    • From My Classes
      Click My Classes, open a class, go to the Student List tab, and select Actions > Set Temporary Password for the student.

  3. In the Set Temporary Password window, enter a temporary password.

  4. Confirm the temporary password and click Save.

Share the temporary password with the student so they can log in.


Temporary password requirements

When creating a temporary password, it must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Must contain at least 8 characters
  • Must include two or more character types:
    • Letter
    • Number
    • Symbol (for example: !, @, #, $, %, &, *)
  • Cannot include the word “password”
  • Cannot include the student’s name, username, or email
  • Password strength must be Medium or stronger

What the student does next

  1. The student goes to platform.everfi.net.
  2. They log in using:
    • Their username
    • The temporary password you created
  3. After signing in, the student is prompted to create a new password of their own.

Finding a student’s username (User ID)

If a student does not know their username, you can find it in their profile.
From My Students, click the student’s name to view their profile details.
