Teachers/Educators Without Rostered Sections
Learn how educators without rostered sections can create classes using sectionless cohorts
Some educators use Everfi without being assigned official sections in Clever or ClassLink—like after‑school teachers, interventionists, specialists, or co‑teachers. If you don’t have rostered sections, you can still create classes and get students learning right away.
What you can do
- Create a custom class even if no sections appear in your SSO
- Generate a class registration code to share with students
- Assign courses to your class and manage progress in the Gradebook
Who should use this
Use this option if you support students but do not have rostered sections tied to your name in Clever or ClassLink.
Important: If you are a traditional classroom teacher who is waiting for your sections to sync, please work with your district to complete rostering rather than creating a custom class.
Create a Sectionless (Custom) Class
- Log in to your Teacher Site as you normally do
- Go to the My Classes tab and select Create Class
- If you see No Sections in the section picker, choose the option to create a custom class

- Name your class, select the grade/subject, and add courses
- After creating the class, copy the class registration code and share it with students
Students join by entering your class code from the student login page. Once they launch the course, their names will appear on your Students tab, and progress will show in your Gradebook.
Best practices
- Name clearly: Include purpose, period, or program (e.g., “After‑School Financial Literacy – Grade 8 – Spring”)
- Keep sections distinct: Don’t use custom classes as placeholders while you wait for SSO rostering
- Plan for continuity: If your district later assigns rostered sections, keep the sectionless class separate rather than trying to merge
FAQs
Can I later merge my sectionless class with a newly rostered SSO class?
No. Merging sectionless and rostered classes isn’t supported. If sections are rostered later, continue using the rostered class going forward.
Can students who use Clever/ClassLink still join my custom class with a code?
Yes. Students can enter your class code to join your custom class even if they normally sign in through Clever or ClassLink.
Can I add students manually to a rostered (SSO) class?
No. Rostered classes are controlled by your district’s SIS sync. For roster updates, contact your district administrator.
When to contact your district vs. Everfi Support
- Contact your district if you are a rostered teacher and need sections created, edited, or moved in Clever/ClassLink.
- Contact Everfi Support if you are an educator without rostered sections and need help creating or managing a custom class.
